Emma stops in her tracks, and fixes Errol with a long, steady look. "You are amazing," she says, and the tone that accompanies the words hints that it's not a compliment. Still, she lets herself be guided, gathering her skirts as she ascends the stairs. Her expression is taut, as she goes.
"That is typically said a bit more breathlessly," Errol quips as he steps. Flat expressions and long steady looks seem to bounce off of him today. Perhaps it was the scotch.
Emma doesn't dignify Errol's words with a reply, nor does she look at him as she climbs the stairs.
An impromtu gathering in the Feldane Fencing Salon turns to saucy talk of swords and a bit of the old sibling roughhousing in the Parlor. Figurines are kicked! Lamps are threatened! Ladies go off in huffs! And, although Errol is begged to...bare steel, the subject of discussion remains sheathed. For the nonce...

Lady Ilyana Karm
Amber
My Lady Karm,
I received your most recent missive upon my return from a jaunt to Begma on some ugent business. I have begun obtaining the elements on the rather lengthy list, but the entire process will no doubt prove time-consuming.
I will speak with Our Graces immediately regarding the cost of staff and the use of the Feldane Gardens to assist in this endeavor. I am certain that my Dame cousin will supply reinforcements in this effort, if required.
Please speak to Lady Chantris at your convenience; I do not view your friendship as an intrusion in the slightest.
Regards,
Lord Errol Feldane

Mother,
I realize this is short notice, but I have chartered passage to Begma with Addison. I shall accompany him as he reviews the necessary hydraulics for clearing the pass outside Amber's walls (I am not the only one to be found supporting our sister, or so it would seem). Familial loyalty aside, there are quite pragmatic arguments for clearing the stone away; without trade routes, our coffers will suffer.
My Dearest Taleyn,
I know not of what you discussed with the Lady Anae, nor would I ask.
Please understand, though, that the operation for which I have enlisted her service is one I would keep from the ears of Their Graces for the nonce. If you hold me in even half of the regard in which I hold you, your discretion will be my savior.
Until I spy your smile once more,
I remain,
Your favorite (dark-haired) brother,
Errol
p.s. Discretion might involve the avoidance of port while Their Graces are about...
